Maureen Benbow is a tissue viability nurse and Claire Vardy-White is a midwife from Mid-Cheshire Hospital Trust. MOTHERMATEStm is a hydrogel stuffing that allows for physical protection of wounds and maintains a moist healing environment. show breast milk is the most commonly used considerment in the UK along with positioning/latch education.



Information was obtained via initial screening while still postpartum in the infirmary followed by six home visits or telephone interviews to embed pain haemorrhoid and comfort scores. Quantitative pain scores indicate that MOTHERMATEStm group experienced less pain, but statistical significance was not reached. Qualitative data found the MOTHERMATEStm group had higher comfort ratings and was statistically significant. The study supports the use of MOTHERMATEStm as a treatment option for nipple pain.
