Instead, Quasar and huntsman share an oligopoly, and in order for Quasar to gain a hawkish edge they were going to have to develop strong determine and non-pricing strategies (University of Phoenix, 2009). Between Quasar’s and Orion’s optical notebooks there was 400 dollar difference due Orion pricing their notebook higher at $2350 dollars. In order to increase Quasar’s market share, Quasar began evaluating diverse types of technology for their computers.

Due to the patent running out and a high demand of optical computer technology, Quasar and Orion found themselves in an oligopoly. Orion had 55 percent of the market share, and a new notebook that contained similar technology to Quasar’s Neutron. In order to increase their profitability, Quasar infallible to price their computers competitively. Due to monopolistic competition, Quasar’s productiveness and sales have increased. Although, there was a decrease in market shares because of the competition of making similar notebooks. Overall, the sales for optical computers increased, because of the range of availability (University of Phoenix, 2009).
